Lt. Col. Soundboard is a streamer on Twitch, primarily playing the multiplayer tactical first-person shooter, Hell Let Loose.
Hell Let Loose is a hardcore World War II first-person shooter that emphasizes realism, large-scale 100-player battles, and strategic teamwork. Players engage in intense, tactical combat across historically accurate battlefields, coordinating with their squad and command structure to capture objectives and manage resources. Since Hell Let Loose has a steep learning curve, Soundboard dedicated his streams and YouTube channel to educating new players—helping keep the game alive and the community thriving. I discovered his channel through Twitch, as I’m also a frequent viewer and HLL player. After getting to know Soundboard, I learned he wanted to revamp his logo, emotes, and sub badges to elevate his stream, attract more viewers, and grow his fanbase.

Art Direction
I presented several design concepts and was particularly excited to explore the rubber-hose animation style, which ultimately became the final aesthetic.
Why Rubber-Hose Animation Fits a Hell Let Loose Streamer’s Brand:
-
Historical Authenticity – Rubber-hose cartoons were popular during the 1920s-1940s, the same era as WWII.
-
Unique Contrast – The exaggerated, playful look of rubber-hose animation contrasts with Hell Let Loose’s gritty realism, making the brand stand out.
-
Strong Branding Potential – This style works well for mascots, logos, overlays, and animations, reinforcing a distinct and historically-inspired identity.
Inspiration
Initial Mockups
One of Soundboard’s most recognizable trademarks was his iconic orange helmet, a staple of his streams. He wanted this defining element to be a focal point in his new logo. His previous branding featured blue camouflage, which we explored in various design iterations before refining the final look.
Subscription Badges
For those who are not familiar, subscription badges on Twitch are little icons (badges) that show up next to someone’s name in the chat to show how long they’ve been subscribed to a streamer. The longer you stay subscribed, the cooler your badge can look!

This project is one of my favorites because it combined two things I love—design and gaming. I had a blast on it and would love to work on something similar again. It also pushed me out of my comfort zone. I was unfamiliar with some of the deliverables, but ended up super happy with the result and so was Soundboard.
